The Republic of Raefe is a very large, safe nation, notable for its museums and concert halls, devotion to social welfare, and stringent health and safety legislation. The compassionate, democratic, devout population of 294 million Raefeans are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Education, Administration, and Welfare. The average income tax rate is 29.3%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but inefficient Raefean economy, worth 15.3 trillion Dollars a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Information Technology industry, with major contributions from Furniture Restoration, Tourism, and Book Publishing. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 52,031 Dollars, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.0 times as much as the poorest.

Many friends and relatives of Leader have been given ambassador jobs in tropical island nations, the government regularly crumbles under the pressure of terrorists, 'The Anti-Government Hour' is a popular programme on many of Raefe's radio stations, and the government is promoting multicultural values with the new 'Just Be Nice, OK?' initiative. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown. Raefe's national animal is the Wolf, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Raefe is ranked 134,475^th in the world and 267^th in Starlight for Nudest, with 137.25 cheeks per square mile.
