Question of the Day:

If you were to create a role-playing fantasy or science fiction game, what would the class options be?

I would probably choose not to have classes, but rather sets of skills and abilities that could be purchased with some sort of points or experience. Only problem is the list of abilities and skills may become overwhelming, especially when they will start to require previous ones.

I'm quite liking that idea.

I think if I was to design an RPG, I'd be heavily leaning on TVTropes as a resource:

I'm not a fan of dice rolling, so the fewer stats the better, I think. I'd have something like:
Boss - a leadership / persuasion type stat
Brain - intelligence / IQ. Spock or a wizard would score highly.
Brawn - raw meathouse-ness
Bright - agility / resourcefulness. Good for a thief / scavenger / ninja
Build - can fix that broken cartwheel / hyperdrive / disable the timebomb

Hey guys, CQDF here. I just adopted a child self-rearing rule where kids are thrown out to the wild and forced to fend for themselves until their teen years. Sounds like a great plan, no?

I did that too! But now I have to increase the overall intelligence of my nation by a lot.

Question of the Day:

Would you want to live in your nation, and why or why not?

Yes. Even if I was a common citizen, every need is provided for and i can pursue any desire I wish.

Tethys 13 wrote:Question of the Day:

Yes. I'd argue that it's better than the U.S. Even the compulsory military service isn't particularly bad, because since we don't involve ourselves with the rest of the world, military conflict is rare. Personal liberties are honored so long as the citizens use them responsibly, everyone gets all the necessities in life, works, the difference between the richest and poorest citizens is so negligible that there's no really no difference in class. Crime is nearly non-existent. The nation's environment is beautiful and healthy. It's not uncommon to see philosophers, artists, and scientists while you're out just walking to the store. We're a nation of thinkers as much as we are a nation of battle-hardened warriors. We have a strong sense of community. ^_^

Oh dear lord no. My nation is a terrible place filled with horrible people, living according to insane morals and barely doing so at that.

Tethys 13 wrote:Question of the Day:

Maybe yes, the policies of Brazil Cyprus are certainly better than those of my country in real life.

Nope nope nope nope just nope

Tethys 13 wrote:Question of the Day:

even though we have a foundation that theoretically should celebrate black culture in our country, our current president put as president of this foundation precisely a racist!

But apart from that, we are getting better every day - it's a little, of course, because my country is the one that kills the most black people in the world.

Tethys 13 wrote:Question of the Day:

Would you want to live in your nation, and why or why not?

Sort of, I would be able to do almost whatever I want, although because of that it could be pretty hard living in my place.

Tethys 13 wrote:Question of the Day:

Depends. It has top notch welfare and good economy, a good tourist destination and I don't even have to worry about crime. Yes, I might live here.

Tethys 13 wrote:Question of the Day:

I guess, safety is awesome and crime is really low.
BUT I GET EXECUTED FOR CRIME

Yes. Citizens have both the rights, and the free time to pursue whatever they want (so long as it doesn't impede anybody else's rights.) As well as a beautiful environment, and more welfare than most could ever possibly need.

Question of the Day:

What do you wish you had been taught or were being taught in school?

Tethys 13 wrote:Question of the Day:

Marketable skills like welding, car repair, or the like.

Tethys 13 wrote:Question of the Day:

World history from a teacher who was both passionate and knowledgeable about world history.

I hate how it's taught in school. Dates and names are important, but the way events relate to each other really engages people. I had one high school teacher that could bring that knowledge to the forefront of his teaching and it made the world of difference. Every other teacher just told us to read the textbook when they weren't reading some scripted comments themselves.
