Loading...Sadly can't do that.
Else I'd probably have added mushrooms and the like.
Also possibly corn.
The decision to enter Swammweald into the World Assembly was not done easily. The Mycelium rippled and agitated with debate -- sometimes reasonable, something fervid -- as to whether the Free Lands would be subordinating itself by such a decision.
The Wandrentoun cluster officially abstained, though it was widely assumed -- correctly -- their populace approved. The Lichmere and and Heawerwic clusters unsurprisingly registered their dissent right away, as did Wymrhlāwas -- always sensitive to their location between the two regions -- and Sunnaleigh shortly after. The Londsae cluster followed swiftly in response registering their approval, tailed by their long-time allies in Treowyrm and Coernmersc. But it was the Isengraef and Wyrtwold clusters that surprised with their own approval, as well as the unexpected mutual assent of Grenefaest and their ancient rival Elpendford, that ensured Swammweald as a whole had the majority of the populace's approval. And it was to much anticipation that the newest cluster of Yok'mana cast their voice into Swammweald politics: a divided, but more than majority assent.
There would be difficulties, of course. WA diplomats would find it explained that resolutions could only be mandated in federated Mycelial holdings, and those held in community by the clusters could not be forced to adopt them. And although Swammweald had not entered their own world's proposed Association of Nations, it was let known that the Free Land would almost certainly side with its direct neighbors over this fragile, multiversal connection.
Nevertheless, there was a sense of cautious joy in the Wandretoun cluster as they reported the latest news: a vote of confidence from a new neighbor across the great divide. Swammwealders crowded around newspapers and radios to hear of another exotic new land, and murmured to themselves about the strange cold lands of 'Alaska' and 'America'. The world after the Great War had seemed bigger than ever before -- and now, it was even greater than one world.
(all that is to say: thanks for the endorsement, Seward's Folly! Very interested to see how Alaska goes communist in your timeline.)
On a completely different note…
First, a poll-related fun fact: although Swammweald’s humid and waterlogged lowlands make it ideal for growing rice — and indeed I listed it as a staple crop — it refers to it as corn. Indeed, it refers to all small crop seeds as corn in the fine old English tradition! And it does also grow wheat, though more in the northern highland regions amidst its rolling hills.
Second, a question of international relations: who would they be closest to of their fellow Fallen Nations? Who would they be wary of? And are there any of the ‘canon’ Nationstates NPC nations they are especially close or frigid to?
To a matter of crops, we have much to ponder
What vegetables or fruit grow in a mind left to wander?
What nourishes man within dreams?
Dreams, they do
And dreams you can never be too full of, never burst any seams
Though how to export these, we have no clue.
WtDaW grows rice in the deserts, wheat in the forests, potatoes in the rivers, and corn in the mountains. Plantains grow in tundras, cassavas grow in the oceans, soybeans grow in ventilation systems, yams fall out of the sky, and sorghum isn't grown at all but appears nevertheless. Obviously, the staple crops are various species of game birds, grown from birdseed.
Atsvea, Seculara, and Biblitopia
Huzzah! N-Day news are in!
Even though we did not get an explicit shoutout, having only reached 14th place, we placed 4th in the secondary ranking - most points per nation!
Huzzah, again!
SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!
And the poll has rolled over.
I once again need to think of something.
Biblitopia's most common beverage of choice is, surprisingly, rum. It's technically a drink called aguardiente, but it's the same sort of brewing process and it's only not counted as such legally due to its variable APV. Despite the associations with maritime powers, and Biblitopia mainly avoiding that for much of its lifespan, Biblitopians still chose to just Do That due to an abundance of sugar originally brought in by the first government of the nation. Attempts to make beer, wine, and whiskey more popular when the second government took charge all failed rather spectacularly, and the current administration has chosen instead to document the variable recipes, flavours, and variations in the nation for cultural records.
You won't find the same strength or flavour from one town to another, so it's always advised to ask a local travel agent the actual strength of what you'll be drinking if you choose to partake. It is traditionally left unflavoured when served cold, but forms the basis of many hot mixed drinks, with cinnamon, anise, cloves, or fruit juices being common additions.
Here in our cities, our drink's oft import—
Infact, drinks can bring one to us,
With eyes closed in a bar, mind ventures on a bus
To our dreamt-of cities, a temporary guest
Though how much they remember can only be guessed,
I might be stretching things, to call it a travel of sort.
