The Grand Duchy of Yourima is a small, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its state-planned economy, punitive income tax rates, and stringent health and safety legislation. The quiet, industrious population of 23 million Yourimen are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The enormous, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Administration, Law & Order, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 68.6%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The struggling Youriman economy, worth 390 billion lire a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry, with significant contributions from Arms Manufacturing, Trout Farming, and Furniture Restoration. Average income is 16,966 lire, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

TV shows must meet strict ethnicity quotas, the people are famous throughout the region for their perfect yellow teeth, scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes, and asthmatics can now suffer the effects of polluting chimneys from further away than ever before. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Yourima's national animal is the panther, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Yourima is ranked 101,719^th in the world and 387^th in Starlight for Nicest Citizens, with 14.64 average smiles per day.
