Makifist appointed to Politburo
Following the death of Rustam Burki, Minister for Suppressing Counterrevolutionary Sentiment, in the failed coup two weeks ago, the Domlandian Unity Front has finally settled on Sohrab Hasni, a former military officer and famous leader of the Makifist movement. Hasni is outspoken on his criticism for the DSR's safralist voting system and usage of a hybrid economic system. Sohrab Hasni has argued that "the goal of socialism is to realise the fundamental equality of all humans. By distributing votes on the basis of wealth or job positions, this undermines that fundamental equality." In regards to the economic policies employed by the government, Hasni has been critical at times: "you cannot have a truly equal and all-encompassing society whilst capitalism exists. Some say that the economy relies on private trade and enterprise to function, but that is only because we tolerate it to begin with. In the foundational years of our new state, we have never had a better opportunity to eradicate capitalism once and for all and build a new economy based on mutual co-operation. The Five Year Plan squanders that."
Although still relatively fringe, Makifism has been growing rapidly in Domlandian society, particularly amongst the military and security services, many of whom have been working since before 1997 to bring about a socialist society and are disillusioned with moderate solutions. The Minister for Suppressing Counterrevolutionary Sentiment has a broad portfolio, giving them control over both several propaganda tools but also some elements of the security apparatus, which they can use to pursue political enemies of the Unity Front. A Makifist in control of this powerful office will undoubtedly improve their political prospects for the future.
